NYSATA is a non-profit professional organization founded in 1948 for the purpose of advancing art education in the state of New York. This organization includes art educators who believe that in order to teach art, one must make art.

Inclusive Fitness Focus of Trainers Program at Daemen

8:00 am - 5:00 pm - Schenck Hall: Schenck Hall 201

Local fitness trainers and exercise instructors will receive specialized training on modifying exercise programs to make them more inclusive to individuals with disabilities. The comprehensive “train the trainer” program is open to experienced and new fitness professionals. Certified participants who complete the free program will receive National Strength and Conditioning Association approved CEUs. It is designed to give participants an overview on developing inclusive wellness and fitness services at their facilities, will cover disability awareness, modifying exercises for individuals with disabilities, relaxation and yoga, exercise and nutrition, universal design at fitness facilities, and marketing an inclusive program. The registration deadline is June 5th. This fitness initiative is funded by the New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council. Ambassadors in Caring for Individuals who are Medically Fragile/Frail with Developmental Disabilities Education Program

Daemen College is proud to offer a program to clinicians in practice and students in health profession programs aimed at improving care for individuals who are medically frail with developmental disabilities and their families.

Program co-sponsored by Daemen College, Parent Network of Western New York, and Center for Self Advocacy.

The education program is free and includes lunch through grant support.

Seating is limited and prior registration is required.

Get Movin’-Exercise, Nutrition and Wellness

Did you resolve to get healthy? The Get Movin’-Exercise, Nutrition and Wellness: A Fitness Initiative for Individuals With and Without Disabilities” is scheduled to start a summer session for twice per week starting June 16th for 8 weeks. The hour long sessions include exercise, along with information on nutrition and healthy habits. You must obtain medical clearance from your physician in order to participate in the program. Weekly giveaways and other prizes for completing the 8 week program will be given out! This fitness initiative is funded by the New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council. 4th Annual Daemen College World Refugee Day Celebration

5:00 - 7:00 pm - Tri-Main: TRM Lobby

World Refugee Day was established by the United Nations to honor the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homes under threat of persecution, conflict and violence.

This celebration will include a discussion with Pam Kefi of Jewish Family Service, director of the new WNY Center for Survivors of Torture. A panel of refugees who will share their stories, and foods from refugee business owners.

In addition, an exhibit from St. Louis entitled "The Bosnia Memory Project" which tells the story of the Bosnian refugees who fled to the United States will also be featured.

This event is sponsored by the Center for Sustainable Communities and Civic Engagement, and the History and Political Science Department.

It is free of charge, and open to the public.

Did you know that trash haulers will NOT pick up your TV, stereo, computer etc. from the curb? New legislation requires that these items be properly recycled.

Easy drive-up with large boxes to accept your materials. Open to anyone in the community, so tell your friends.

Environmental Summit

8:30 am - 12:30 pm - Wick Center: Wick Social Room

Free public event featuring speakers, workshops and information
tables about environmental and community sustainability. Speakers
will discuss food safety and bisphenol-A in food packaging, urban
farming and promoting access to fresh foods. A panel discussion will
address sustainability initiatives among local food
manufacturers--McCullagh Coffee, Perry's Ice Cream and Rich Products.
Over 30 organizations will be exhibiting.

Named an Ambassador of Racial Justice by the ACLU, his weekly half-hour FX comedy series, Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell, premiered in August 2012 and became a critically acclaimed but criminally short nightly show in September of 2013 on FX’s new comedy network FXX. The NY Times called Kamau “the most promising new talent in political comedy in many years.”
