Distinguished Leaders Lecture Series: Mayor Byron Brown

Buffalo Mayor Byron W. Brown will discuss the city’s economic resurgence and revitalization efforts as featured speaker in the Daemen College Distinguished Leaders Lecture Series. His talk, “Buffalo on the Move: For Our Region, Our State,” will focus on the city’s economic development initiatives over the past decade and the positive impact this growth has had both regionally and statewide. The lecture is free and open to the public. Reservations are requested by Aug. 29 by emailing officeofthepresident@daemen.edu.

Fall Convocation 2014

Fall Convocation is a Daemen tradition to welcome new and returning students to our college community. It is an opportunity for everyone on campus to assemble together at the start of the academic year. Morning classes should end by 10:30 AM. The Convocation program will be immediately followed by a festive campus luncheon in Wick Dining Room, compliments of Student Association. Afternoon classes will begin at 1 PM.

Time for a fall clean-out. Drop off your used electronics on the back porch of Wick Student Center from Friday 9/27-Sunday 9/29 for free recycling in conjunction with the free Environmental Summit on Saturday (8:30am-12:30pm, www.daemen.edu/summit)

Did you know that trash haulers will NOT pick up your TV, stereo, computer etc. from the curb? New legislation requires that these items be properly recycled.

Easy drive-up with large boxes to accept your materials. Open to anyone in the community, so tell your friends.

Environmental Summit

8:30 am - 12:30 pm - Wick Center: Wick Social Room

Free public event featuring speakers, workshops and information
tables about environmental and community sustainability. Speakers
will discuss food safety and bisphenol-A in food packaging, urban
farming and promoting access to fresh foods. A panel discussion will
address sustainability initiatives among local food
manufacturers--McCullagh Coffee, Perry's Ice Cream and Rich Products.
Over 30 organizations will be exhibiting.

Join Linda M. Janelli, RN, BC, EdD. LtCol, (Retired), USAF, NC for a presentation: Operation Homecoming to Desert Storm – Through the Eyes of a Flight Nurse
Time sometimes stands still, sometimes it flies, and in any case it is difficult to appreciate that Operation Homecoming returning our POWs from Vietnam took place 41 years ago. Desert Storm was 23 years ago. Yes, a different war, a different country, but as some things changed, some things remained the same. This is a personal account as seen through the lenses of an Air Force Flight Nurse. You’re invited on this retrospective journey.

This event is free and open to the public. Join us at 2:00pm on Tuesday, October 14 on the Daemen campus in the Wick Campus Center, Social Room.
