The pre-assessment is administered to the second grade students prior to any explicit teaching on community helpers. The following graph shows pre and post information on the assessment. There are eighteen students in the class. All students are assessed using these assessments.
Classification of student work from the Post Assessment:
-Distinguished Students: Rubric score of 15-13
-Proficient Students: Rubric score of 12-10
-Developing Students: Rubric score of 9 or below

Conclusion
From the graph, it is evident that students achieved the objectives in the lesson at least at a proficient level. The pre-assessment shows that majority of the students were unable to identify community helpers and facts about them. Therefore, most students were in the developing stage during the pre-assessment. The post-assessment shows that most students became proficient and some students were even distinguished. More one-on-one assistance needs to be provided for the two students who were still considered in the developing stage. Threats to validity may include the prior knowledge that the students have experienced.
