Diagnostic: Prior to starting the project the children practice writing their names using name papers, this is an outline of their name that the children complete on a daily basis. First, the children trace over the corresponding letter then individually practice writing.
Formative: During the activity the children will be assessed on their ability to accurately write their name independently.
Summative: The children will complete the project and finish by writing their name on the badge. The children will complete their rubric with teacher assistance. The teacher will assess the students writing progress using the teacher rubric. The four point rubric assesses each student’s ability on the following characteristics: letter/number formation, participation during the discussion and project, and alphabet knowledge, each child’s knowledge of the letters present in their name. Students will read, write, listen, and speak for information and understanding. The children complete the child rubric to include each child in the process and to improve progress. This provides the teacher with the child’s present progress.
