Grade Level and Ability:
All seven students in this class have IEP’s. There are four students which are at the fourth grade level and therefore will be taking the Fourth Grade New York State Science exam this year. The other three students are at a third grade level and will not be taking the exam until next year. This lesson will be focused as a learning experience toward the fourth grade students and just as an introductory lesson for the third grade students.

Overview of What Students Need to Know and Be Able to Do:
In order for the students to meet the stated objectives of this learning experience, the students need to:
• Know that a thermometer is the tool used to measure the temperature.
• Freezing point is 32 degrees Fahrenheit 0 degrees Celsius.
• Read a thermometer in both Fahrenheit and Celsius.
• When the “red” is high on the thermometer it means the temperature is hot, when the “red” is low on the thermometer it is cold.
