Parts of an Apple

Learning Context

Purpose

The purpose of this learning experience is to help students learn the parts of an apple. The students gain understanding of where apples come from, different kinds of apples, and why learning each part of an apple is important.  The students label the parts of an apple on a worksheet after going over the parts as a guided activity. The students also write what they learn about apples and graph their favorite apple based on a taste test.

Enduring Understanding

  • An apple has six parts: leaves, skin, stem, flesh, core, and seeds.
  • Each part of the apple serves a purpose in helping the apple grow.

Essential Questions

Letter home

Dear Parents,
This week we have been celebrating Johnny Appleseed’s birthday.  In honor of his birthday, we will be taste testing different apples on Friday. Please send your child in with two apples of his/her choice on or before Friday so that we can have a variety of apples to taste test.

Thank you!

Miss. Banach
