This learning experience was conducted over the course of four days.  The introductory lesson was 40 minutes in duration, and each additional lesson was 35 minutes.  Please note that the lesson write-up presented earlier flows as though the lesson was completed in one day.  This is to allow for flexibility of lesson breaks, and use of the lesson in different classroms.

  • Class discussion of what we are thankful for, and to whom
  • Teacher introduction and modeling of thank you note format (includes introduction of peer-editing process)

  • Review of what we are thankful for
  • Review of teacher's sample thank you note
  • Students begin to write own thank you note
  • Students self-edit, if time permits

  • Review of peer editing process
  • Students peer-edit
  • Final drafts, if necessary, are completed
